GENEOLOGY - Shaw Family

As most of you know I am the family Genealogist, much to the dismay of my grandmothers, who totally discouraged it. In fact on many occasions I had to use the sneak attack to get information. Using hidden tape recorders, taking notes, asking and asking and asking, I got tons of stories from grandmothers who were amazing people, but did not care to have their story told.
Now I have uncovered the most amazing thing. Nanny Shaw's grandfather. I had been stumped for so many years on "C.C. Johnson". It was like the line ended and began with him.....My grandmother was not sure what the C.C. stood for but she was pretty sure it was Christopher, she said. She also recalled a story of how he disappeared and never came back home until he was really sick and was then taken care of by his daughters until he died. She didn't care for him was what she inferred. And this week, thanks to the hard work of other geneologists I have the whole story.
His REAL name was Christopher Columbus Hornbuckle. For some reason he changed his name in 1879 (after leaving his first family) and became "CC Johnson" (he did live in Johnson county, maybe he just took the county name for his last name?) His last Hornbuckle child was born in 1876 and he began his Johnson family in 1880.
He was a confederate soldier during the Civil War and served with the 11th Texas Calvary and filed for his pension. All of this is documented, and on the ancestry.com family site.
I also was able to see the first picture of Nanny Shaw's mother, Mary Jane "Johnson" Pace. I have looked for nearly 30 years and last week it came full circle with addition of the pictures, I am satisfied and now the real work can begin.
